What it is
Built over a semester of homework for a software design and architecture course, with two colleagues. A scraper pulls ten years of price history for every company on the Macedonian Stock Exchange into Postgres, designed to refresh every 24 hours.
A Django REST backend serves it to a Next.js frontend. Anyone can browse a company's price history, and signed-in users get a page of their own stocks and simulated trades. The final homework split login into its own microservice and packaged everything with Docker Compose.
- Scrapes the official Macedonian exchange back ten years and keeps the history in Postgres.
- A Django backend behind a Next.js frontend, with full CRUD and a daily refresh scheduler.
- Grew out of a homework series rather than a single brief, and ran on Azure until that deployment was retired.
What I learnt
- My first larger web application, and where I learned proper software development: a design and architecture phase before any code, then a scraper, a backend and a frontend built to fit together.
- Using a database with millions of rows.
What I would do next
Rebuild the whole app from scratch and make it smarter by integrating AI.
